
Composer, conductor, arranger and pianist Reinout Douma is a Groningen, The Netherlands, based musician with a strong focus on mixing acoustic instruments and orchestra with electronics. He is crossing genres by working creatively with artists and producers in Jazz, World and electronic music.
Reinout is the founder and leader of Noordpool Orkest in Groningen, an orchestra performing anything but classical music. In this capacity, Reinout has worked with leading national and international musicians like Jose James, Ben van Gelder, Ethan Iverson, Miguel Zenon, Nai Barghouti, Dave Douglas, Fay Claassen, Jett Rebel, Benjamin Herman, Waylon, Janne Schra, Thys de Vlieger, Reinier Baas, Zara Mc Farlane, Karsu, Douwe Bob, Ed Kowalczyk, Anna Serierse, Tineke Postma, Oene van Geel, Xavi Torres, Izaline Calister, Nynke Laverman and Wouter Hamel.
He is also experienced in conducting film scores for ‘Cinema in Concert’ and as a composer and conductor in shows with artists like Jochem Myjer, Bert Visscher, Ellen ten Damme, Ashton Brothers and Vrouw Holland.
Reinout is always pursuing innovation in orchestral music. Recordings like “Radiohead, a Jazz Symphony”, “Vasalis” with Janne Schra, “Turning Point” with Thys / Amon Tobin and the upcoming Peter Gabriel JazzRockSuite are exemplary of Reinout’s style and vision. He conducted orchestras in The Netherlands, Belgium, Portugal and Ireland.
In his hometown Groningen, Reinout is the founder and artistic leader of Zummerbühne, which develops and produces musical theatre, and he teaches both jazz piano and arranging at Noorderpoort college.
